Learn,Laugh & Live with us in Balsall Common!
Make the most of life after full-time work by exploring new ideas, skills, and interests with your local Balsall Common u3a. Across the UK, u3a members are learning, sharing, and having fun in later life — and right here in our village, we’re proud to be part of that movement!
The u3a is all about lifelong learning and friendship. It’s local, social, friendly, low-cost, and open to everyone in their third age — that wonderful stage of life when you’ve finished full-time work or family commitments and finally have time to focus on you.
We’re a non-religious, non-political organisation that believes in the simple ethos of “Learn, Laugh & Live.” There are no entry requirements, no exams, and no pressure — just the joy of discovering new things in good company.

🌿 How We Work
The u3a is a little different from most adult learning organisations. Instead of paid tutors, members share their knowledge, talents, and enthusiasm with each other purely for pleasure. Every group leader gives their time voluntarily, which helps keep costs low and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.
We currently have around 400 members and over 40 Interest Groups, covering a wide variety of topics and activities — from art, languages, and history to rambling, bridge, theatre, and the Curry Club! From Scrabble to Walking Football. Most groups meet during the day in venues around Balsall Common, though we also enjoy evening meals and social events, and occasional day trips to interesting places. For a full list of our groups see the Groups Page. Help is available if a member wishes to start a new group. If you have an idea for a new activity group please contact our Group Liaison
As one member put it, “It’s like a youth club for people in their third age” — a fun and easy way to make new friends and keep active in mind and body.
🗓 Monthly Meetings
We hold a Monthly Meeting on the first Thursday of each month starting at 2:00pm in St Peters Hall, Holly Lane, Balsall Common (CV7 7EA).
Each meeting features a guest speaker, refreshments, and plenty of friendly conversation. The hall has level access for wheelchairs, free off-road parking, and an induction hearing loop for anyone who needs it. For a list of forthcoming speakers and topics see the Monthly Meeting Page
