On the 2nd Thursday of the month we take our cameras to a chosen location, and practise our photography and share our joint knowledge.

Are you interested in photography? This friendly group meets monthly on the 4th Thursday between 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm in Balsall Common Village Hall.
Our members have a wide range of knowledge, experience, equipment and photographic interests. The one common factor is that we want to learn more about photography from each other with the aim of taking and presenting better pictures.
We use cameras ranging from mobile phones, compact digital to complex single lens reflex ones. Some members know little about 'f stops' or 'shutter speeds' (although they can easily learn about them if they want). What we do is enjoy being together and being inspired to improve our photographs.
Normally we share our photographs on a different theme each month and talk about them along the lines of what went well and what improvements could be made. Our meetings are kept low key but can be really helpful. For a different perspective, we invite an external judge on a quarterly basis, to assess and provide feedback on our photos. Presentations on techniques are also given by members and invited guests.
Once a month a day out, Walking With My Camera
, is arranged to take photos in a different location while learning and improving techniques from each other. A selection of images is shown at each meeting.
Members' photos can be viewed on the national u3a website (u3a Eye & u3a Wild and Interesting ) and twice a year at an exhibition in the Balsall Common Library
You do not need to have reached any particular standard to join, just the desire to take photographs and have fun while learning.
