This is a very active, popular and sociable group who enjoy each other’s company while tramping the local fields, highways and byways, marvelling at the wonderful Warwickshire scenery so close to us.

It is the personal responsibility of each walker to ensure they are able to walk at a reasonable pace with the group - we typically cover just over 2 miles an hour.

We meet twice a month, on the 1^st Tuesday and 3^rd Wednesday at 10.00 am. Details of the next walk are given below.

We have a number of walk leaders, from the membership, who take it in turn to select a walk of about 5 to 6 miles. They choose where to go and where we meet. Newer members are encouraged to offer to lead a walk either singly, as a couple or a small group, after they have settled in with us but there is no compunction to do so!

We try to start within 10 miles of Balsall Common and most frequently find pub car parks very suitable for our starting/finishing points! Many members stay for a drink and/or a meal after the walk.

The membership of the group is about 80 of whom most are active.
A walk averages around 10-20 members with a high of 36! Walks take place in most kinds of weather with two major exceptions being snow and excessive heat!

This is a rambling group and for safety and insurance reasons dogs are not allowed.

The cost is very low — there is a joining fee of £2 and to date no other costs. However, members are asked to pay for their own drinks/meals after a walk!
With the joining fee money raised so far we have bought and kept up to date three first aid kits for the leaders to take on their walks and future funds will be available to buy maps, written up walks, etc.

If you would like to join or require any other information please contact the Coordinator Martin Richards Prospective new members can also "try us out" by just turning up at a walk starting point and joining us for that particular walk. Please note, however, if you are not already a u3a member you will not be covered by the u3a insurance scheme. Following that if you wish to continue you will need to join the u3a and the Ramblers group.

As all members are encouraged to lead walks, please contact the coordinator to discuss details further. Lots of help is at hand for anyone who has never led a walk before.

Hot weather walking - General guidance July 2026

First October walk 2026

When:	Tuesday 6th October 2026
Where:	Hampton Lucy
Meet:	10.00AM at The Boars Head, 1 Church Street, Hampton Lucy. CV35 8BE
Direcetions:	(15m, 25mins). Make your way via the A46 to the M40 at the Longbridge roundabout. From there take the A429 south towards Stow on the Wold. After 3 or 4 miles TR towards Charlcote (Birmingham Road). Just passed Charlcote village hall and before the Hall TR into Charlcote Road. Continue over the river and bearing left at junction see pub shortly on LHS
Walk:	Circular walk of 5.5miles starting from The Boars Head in Church Street with good views of the River Avon.  It is easy walking  mostly on footpaths with only 2 stiles. There are some hills and field tracks which can be muddy so poles are recommended.
Afterwards:	Menu can be found here. Please let Sheila know if you want to stay for lunch by 6.00pm on Monday 5th October 2026 so that we can let the pub know  the numbers.  Food choices can be made on the day.
